President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar.
The President also nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The appointments were announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, who said the changes are part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement and align foreign policy with the administration’s economic agenda.
According to the presidency, the reshuffle is aimed at enhancing efficiency, deepening strategic partnerships, and repositioning Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, a seasoned diplomat and former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is expected to lead Nigeria’s external relations at a time the government is prioritising economic diplomacy, regional stability, and stronger international cooperation.
Enikanolaiye, a career diplomat, has held several postings across key global capitals, including Addis Ababa, London, Ottawa, Belgrade, and New Delhi, and is expected to support the ministry’s policy direction.
The President congratulated both appointees and charged them to prioritise national interest, strengthen economic diplomacy, and improve the welfare of Nigerians in the diaspora.
