By Attah Ede

No fewer than 50 police operatives, on Thursday, stormed the Adams Oshiomhole Labour House, the Nigeria Labour Congress,NLC) secretariat in Edo State and sealed off the premises.

Similarly, the operatives also barricaded the main entrance of the University of Benin.

The Network gathered that the  large security presence at the Labour House and the UNIBEN main gate were to stop inauguration of the Caretaker Committee of the Edo NLC.

A police Armoured Personnel Carrier(APC) was seen stationed around  the secretariat, while some suspected thugs were also seen loitering around the secretariat.

It was further gathered that NLC leaders had converged at the UNIBEN ASUU Secretariat for the inauguration of caretaker committee before it was put  off due to security report.

However, the inauguration was later held at another venue in Benin City and Prof. Monday Igbafen was sworn-in.

Some NLC leaders from neighbouring states scheduled to attend the inauguration, at the Labour House, decried that they could not access the secretariat.

Comrade Augustine Igben from the Maritime Workers Union told journalists that he was embarrassed when he could not be allowed entry into the Edo Labour House.

He said: “I felt embarrassed about tbe whole thing. How can the police barricade the Labour House when there is no war. It is Labour issue. They should allow Labour settle the issues themselves.

“I was not allowed entry. Where am I going to pass through. There were lots of security. I also saw some civilians mixed up with them”, he said
