Prominent Nigerian gospel singer, Asu Ekiye, has announced that his 28-year marriage to Kunemofa Asu has come to an end.
Ekiye, widely known as the ‘Prince of the Niger Delta’ disclosed the development in a public notice shared on his Facebook page, saying the marriage ended a year ago.
The gospel singer explained that he chose to make the announcement after taking time to reflect on the transition and gain clarity and acceptance.
He said, “After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to KUNEMOFA ASU has come to an end.”
Ekiye described the marriage as a significant chapter of his life and said he was choosing to move forward with dignity.
He added, “Some chapters, however significant and memorable, eventually come to an end. I choose to close this chapter with grace, gratitude and dignity, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season.”
The singer stressed that the separation was not recent, noting that the marriage had ended in 2025.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago. I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves,” he said.
Ekiye, popularly associated with gospel music in Nigeria and the Niger Delta, signed the announcement as “The Prince of the Niger Delta.”
According to him, the announcement brings to public attention the end of the 28-year marriage which he described as a deeply personal journey of growth and experience.
The gospel singer did not disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding the end of the marriage in his public notice.
Also, the Gospel artiste did not pick the calls placed to his mobile telephone line.
