The principal of Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esiele, Mrs Alamu Folawe, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security operatives following the release of the schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Speaking in a video after their release, Folawe thanked the President and security personnel for their efforts in securing the freedom of the victims after weeks in captivity.
“Hello sir, our father, we’re grateful. The President sir, we’re grateful. We understand your commitment to our safety and we appreciate all you did for us. Thank you very much. And every security operative, they tried so much.
“And that’s why we are still alive now. We’re very grateful,” she said.
The principal was among the 46 victims abducted when armed gunmen attacked the Ahoro-Esiele community on May 15, 2026.
The victims, comprising 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers, spent nearly two months in captivity before regaining their freedom.
Their release was confirmed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga in a post on Facebook.
Authorities have yet to disclose details of the operation that secured the victims’ freedom or whether any arrests were made.
