All 46 schoolchildren and teachers abducted during an attack on Ahoro-Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom, bringing an end to nearly two months of captivity.
The victims, comprising 39 pupils and seven teachers, were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, when heavily armed gunmen invaded the community and attacked a secondary school.
The safe release of the captives was confirmed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The abduction sparked widespread concern across the country as efforts intensified to secure the release of the victims.
During the period of captivity, the situation took a tragic turn when one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly beheaded by the kidnappers.
Although the remaining victims have now been released, authorities have yet to disclose details of the operation that led to their freedom.
It remains unclear whether any suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.
The release marks the end of a tense ordeal for the pupils and teachers after weeks in the custody of their abductors.
