Former Governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has paid a heartfelt tribute to his longtime aide,  retired DSP Zamani Tanko, describing him as a loyal companion, trusted confidant and cherished member of his family whose passing has left an irreplaceable void.

Dickson said Zamani lived a life defined by loyalty, humility, integrity and selfless service, noting that his unwavering commitment to duty and genuine concern for others earned him the respect and affection of everyone who came in contact with him.

Reflecting on their relationship, the senator recalled that he first met Zamani when he was posted to his security detail as an Inspector of Police in 2011.

He said Zamani had distinguished himself through years of service in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) and the Mobile Police Force (MOPOL), experiences that prepared him for the demanding responsibility of serving in his protective team during his tenure as Governor of Bayelsa State.

“What began as a professional relationship gradually blossomed into a bond founded on trust, mutual respect and shared commitment.

“Over the years, Zamani became much more than a security aide. He became one of my closest and most dependable associates and, ultimately, a valued member of my family.

“For more than fifteen years, he stood faithfully by my side, discharging every assignment with diligence, discretion and unwavering loyalty. His calm disposition, professionalism and readiness to serve made him indispensable.”

Dickson noted that even after Zamani retired from the Nigeria Police Force, he retained him as a Special Assistant because of the exceptional trust and confidence they had built over the years.

“By then, he was no longer simply a member of staff; he had become family. My children and every member of my household fondly called him ‘Uncle Zamani’—a reflection of the love, trust and respect he inspired within our home.”

The former governor described the late aide as an honest, hardworking and humble man who carried out every responsibility with sincerity and quiet excellence.

“Whether handling official assignments or attending to family matters, he served with uncommon dedication and never sought recognition for his sacrifices. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and could always be relied upon.”

Speaking on the pain of his passing, Dickson said the loss continues to resonate deeply with him, his family and members of his staff.

“Since his passing, I have often found myself instinctively calling out his name whenever issues arise that he would ordinarily have handled with his characteristic efficiency, only to be confronted with the painful reality that he is no longer with us.

“It is a difficult loss to accept and one that we will continue to feel for a long time.

“We have lost not only a loyal aide, but also a trusted friend, dependable colleague and beloved brother whose presence had become part of our daily lives. His service went far beyond official duty; it was driven by genuine commitment, compassion and an uncommon sense of responsibility.”

While mourning his death, Dickson expressed gratitude to God for the privilege of sharing many years with Zamani.

“We remain deeply grateful to Almighty God for the years we shared with him, for his faithful service, enduring friendship and the countless ways he enriched our lives. Though he is no longer physically with us, the memories we shared and the values he embodied will continue to inspire us.”

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s wife, children and entire family, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

“May Almighty God forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds, grant his soul eternal rest and let perpetual light shine upon him.

“Farewell, Zamani. Your life was one of honour, your service was exemplary, and your memory will forever remain in our hearts.

“Adieu, my brother.” Dickson said.
