A fire outbreak linked to a solar wiring fault damaged a room in a residential building in the Asa-Dam area of Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at No. 38 Oluwalogbon Street, Ijooro, where a spark from solar wiring is believed to have ignited combustible materials inside one of the rooms.
The Kwara State Fire Service said it received an emergency call and deployed firefighters to the scene at about 4:14 p.m. to contain the blaze.
The agency disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, Hassan Adekunle.
According to the statement, the affected property consists of about three-bedroom flats, with the fire confined to a single room.
“The building comprises approximately three-bedroom flats, and the fire affected one of the rooms.
“Our firefighters swiftly commenced firefighting operations and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building,” the statement said.
The Fire Service said preliminary findings indicated that a spark from the building’s solar wiring ignited combustible materials in the room, leading to the outbreak.
The agency noted that the quick intervention of firefighters helped prevent more extensive damage to the property and neighbouring sections of the building.
Reacting to the incident, the Chief Fire Officer of the state, Alabi Muhammed, commended the firefighters for their prompt response and professionalism.
He also urged residents to prioritise electrical and solar installation safety to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks.
“Property owners should engage qualified professionals for electrical and solar installations and ensure that damaged or faulty wiring is promptly attended to in order to prevent fire outbreaks,” Muhammed advised.
The Fire Service further stressed the importance of regular maintenance and inspection of solar and electrical systems, warning that poorly installed or neglected wiring can pose serious fire hazards.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through rapid emergency response and public safety awareness across Kwara State.
