Gunmen suspected to be bandits have murdered three Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officers on duty along Tsamiya–Illo road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The victims were identified as DCRMA Umar Aliyu, SRMA Ezra Manu Gona and RMA I Mansur Ibrahim Nasir.
Sources who spoke to our correspondent said the officers were on official duty when they were ambushed by their attackers.
According to one of the sources who spoke on condition of anonymity, the officers tried to escape from the bandits who were on bike but they pursued them with their motorcycles and killed them before they could escape into the bush.
According to him, the bandits numbering over 20, immediately after killing the FRSC personnel retreated into the bush on their motorcycles.
“They are always coming to attack security operatives in this area. This is about the fifth time they are coming to kill security officers at their duty post in this area,” he said.
Security operatives at the Tsamiya axis of Bagudo have come under series of attacks by bandits and Lakurawa in recent time.
Before this latest attack on the FRSC personnel, more than 10 officers of the Customs, Immigration and Police had been killed by the terrorists group in Tsamiya/Maje axis of the Bagudo Local Government Area of the state in one year.
No official statement has been issued by the FRSC command in the state over the incident and calls to the road safety agency’s public relations officer were not returned as at the time of filling this report.
Following the spate of bandit attacks in parts of the state, Governor Nasir Idris, at the weekend, convened an emergency security meeting at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi to strengthen the coordinated efforts aimed at addressing the emerging security challenges in the state.
He expressed deep concern over the recent attacks in some parts of the state and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to curbing insecurity in the state.
“My administration will not tolerate or spare anyone found to be an informant. Anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law, and justice will be served,” he said.
