President Bola Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general election after recording a sweeping victory in the party’s nationwide direct primary election.
Results announced during the national collation exercise at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre showed the President defeating his only challenger, Stanley Osifo, by an overwhelming margin.
Tinubu secured 10,999,967 votes across the country, while Osifo polled 16,504 votes in the exercise conducted in 8,809 wards nationwide.
The collation was supervised by the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee chaired by former Senate President Pius Anyim, with governors from 31 states and senior party officials serving as coordinators and returning officers.
The President posted dominant figures across all six geopolitical zones, consolidating his control of the ruling party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In the South-West, regarded as the APC’s traditional stronghold, Tinubu secured 814,988 votes in Lagos, 322,485 in Ogun, 181,996 in Ondo, 142,754 in Oyo, 100,888 in Osun, and 85,340 votes in Ekiti.
The North-West also delivered massive support for the President, with Kaduna producing 618,914 votes, Kano returning 500,852 votes, while Katsina recorded 467,003 votes. Kebbi delivered 292,972 votes, Sokoto returned 301,000, and Zamfara produced 321,579 votes.
Tinubu maintained similar dominance in the North-Central region, polling 374,787 votes in Benue, 310,990 in Kwara, 285,436 in Nasarawa, 241,720 in Plateau, 197,370 in Kogi, and 175,487 in Niger State. He also secured 36,103 votes in the Federal Capital Territory.
In the South-East, the President recorded 582,960 votes in Imo, 383,382 in Enugu, 207,579 in Ebonyi, 161,005 in Abia, and 43,034 in Anambra.
The South-South equally produced strong numbers for the President, with Delta returning 407,646 votes, Akwa Ibom 389,197 votes, Rivers 280,082 votes, and Bayelsa 227,192 votes.
Osifo recorded only scattered votes in a few states, including 1,186 votes in Lagos, 929 in Oyo, 1,007 in Abia, and 384 in Anambra, while failing to secure votes in several other states.
The outcome of the primary further strengthens Tinubu’s position within the ruling party as preparations intensify for the 2027 presidential election.
