A devastating road accident has claimed the lives of a man, his three children, and their maid along the Ife-Ilesa Expressway in Osun State on Saturday morning.
The family’s Toyota Hilux was involved in a head-on collision with a Mark trailer reportedly driving against traffic.
According to a statement from the Osun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash occurred due to the trailer driver’s reckless decision to drive on the wrong lane.
The wife, who was also in the vehicle, sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Ipetumodu. The bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife.
FRSC spokesperson Agnes Ogungbemi confirmed that the trailer driver is in police custody and will face prosecution.
Sector Commander Taofeek Adeyemi disclosed that the sum of N508,900 and other personal items recovered from the scene have been handed over to the victims’ relatives in the presence of the police.
He urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and avoid wrong-way driving, emphasizing that such negligence continues to cause preventable loss of lives on Nigerian roads.
