The Department of State Services (DSS) has given indications into reasons behind the arrest and detention of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero.
According to sources within the agency, Ajaero was taken into custody on Monday morning due to his failure to honour an invitation extended to him by the DSS.
While a source claimed the arrest was related to a petition by some NLC leaders, another source claimed that the current travails of the NLC leader was linked to a petition by local domestic airline, Air Peace.
The details for the petition over alleged extortion was not stated.
The Network further gathered that
the National Intelligence Agency also invited Ajaero in connection with the case involving one Andrew Wynne, a Briton who was accused of sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria
However, the Briton has since denied the claim
But a source who spoke to the Network on the condition of anonymity said that security operatives are stopping the NLC President because he might make utterances outside the country considered inimical to the image of Nigeria.
It was stated that the security agencies would not want any narrative that would de-market the country especially at a time the President is making efforts in China to boost the nation’s image.
