The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, has struck out an application by detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu requesting to be moved from the Sokoto Correctional Centre to a custodial facility within the Federal Capital Territory or neighbouring Nasarawa State.
In the alternative, the IPOB leader further seek relocation to any detention centre within the court’s jurisdiction including Suleja or Keffi to enable him to properly pursue his appeal.
Kanu, through the Legal Aid Council, had filed an ex-parte application asking the court to compel the Federal Government or the Nigerian Correctional Service to transfer him to the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja or the Keffi facility in Nasarawa.
However, Justice James Omotosho, while delivering a ruling on Monday, refused to grant the request, stating that such an order cannot be granted without hearing from the Federal Government.
Omotosho directed the convicted leader to convert the application into a motion on notice and serve all respondents to ensure fair hearing.
The court fixed January 27, 2026, for the hearing of the motion.
