The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed 13 new cases of Lassa fever and four deaths recorded across the country within the 40th epidemiological week, spanning September 29 to October 5, 2025.
The agency disclosed this in its latest situation report shared on its verified X handle on Wednesday.
It said the new infections were detected in Ondo and Edo States two of the states most affected by the disease since the beginning of the year.
According to the report, Nigeria has now recorded 924 confirmed cases and 172 deaths across 21 states and 106 local government areas so far in 2025.
The case fatality rate (CFR) stands at 18.6 percent, up from 17 percent reported during the same period in 2024, indicating a slight increase in mortality.
During the week under review, 117 new suspected cases were reported, bringing the total number of suspected cases this year to 8,041.
The NCDC noted that over 90 percent of confirmed infections have been concentrated in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, and Ebonyi States, which remain the epicentres of the outbreak.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying surveillance, laboratory testing, risk communication, and infection prevention and control measures across all states to contain further spread of the virus.
