Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has disengaged all directors-general of government agencies and technical advisers with immediate effect, completing the exit of political appointees ahead of his second-term inauguration on October 16.
The affected officials have been directed to submit their handover notes to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode.
Oyebode said the decision followed the dissolution of the State Executive Council barely 24 hours earlier, marking the completion of the disengagement process for political appointees in the administration.
“The disengagement, which came barely 24 hours after the dissolution of the State Executive Council, marks the completion of the disengagement process for political appointees serving in the administration, except for a few whose appointments have been retained in view of the nature of their assignments,” the statement said.
Oyebanji thanked the outgoing directors-general and technical advisers for their service, acknowledging their “support, commitment and contributions to the administration as well as the development of Ekiti State.”
The governor also wished the affected officials success in their future endeavours.
The latest development follows an earlier restructuring exercise on September 27, when Oyebanji dissolved the boards of government agencies, commissions and parastatals and terminated the appointments of political aides. Directors-general and technical advisers were initially exempted from that exercise.
The latest disengagement comes as Oyebanji prepares for his second-term inauguration on October 16, following the winding down of his first term in office.
