The Commissioner of Police in charge of Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has dismissed rumours that the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were rescued by Sunday Igboho.

The CP said the victims were rescued through intelligence and security action coordinated police operatives.
The CP spoke to journalists on Sunday when he visited the kidnappers’ hideout located at Lakoun, along the Ayegun-Olojuoro Road in Ibadan, where the victims were rescued
Mrs John-Paul and her sons were kidnapped at about 7:30 a.m. on June 3, 2026, and were released by security operatives on July 7, 2026.
CP Olugbenga stressed that the arrest of the suspects was purely a product of police intelligence work.
The CP advised Nigerians to always report suspicious movements to the police to enable them to carry out prompt action.
“As regards how we captured the kidnappers, when we had the incident on the 3rd of June, we carried out some technical works which resulted in our arresting them,” he explained. “So, it was purely intelligence work…
“As you can see, we are live here, and here is the abode of the kidnappers,” the commissioner said.
“People around here testified that they normally see them, but they are afraid to come out to say what’s always going on.
“My advice is clear: if you see something, speak out so that we can take action because if we had known before now, we would have taken action against them.
“My advice to Nigerians at large is that they should always report any act in their areas.” He stated
The commissioner added that the police are investigating claims in some quarters that the crime was politically motivated.
He also said that the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, will take a decision on the property used for the abduction.
“As regards the issue of whether it is politically motivated or not, we are still carrying out investigations on that,” he said.
“The Governor of Oyo State will also take decisive decisions on the building where this incident occurred,” the police commissioner stated.
