Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved the setting up of a seven-member judicial commission of inquiry to investigate the arson, killings and wanton destruction of lives and property that occurred at some local government council headquarters in the state on Monday.
This was contained in an announcement by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Tammy Danagogo, on Tuesday.
It stated that the panel was put together in line with Section 2 (1) of the Commissions of Inquiry Law of Rivers State.
The commission is chaired by Justice I.R Minakiri while Inyingi Brown will serve as secretary, with Uzor Ikenga as counsel to the panel.
Other members are Felicia Nwoke, Prof. Blessing Didia, Samuel Egbe and Alex Usifor.
Danagogo said that members of the commission would be sworn in on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt.
The Network had reported that sections of the local government council headquarters of Eleme, Obio/Akpor, Emohua, Khana and Ikwerre were set ablaze on Monday by suspected political thugs.
One person was reported to have been killed in Khana LGA.
The violent attacks followed the conduct of the state’s local government council election on Saturday and the subsequent inauguration of the elected 23 chairmen and their deputies by Governor Fubara on Sunday.
