AKPABIO DECLARES ONDO SOUTH SENATORIAL SEAT VACANT 

Urges INEC to Conduct Bye Election in 30 Days

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has declared the Ondo South Senatorial District seat vacant 

The Senate President declared the seat vacant on Tuesday following the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as an Ambassador and his exit from the Red Chamber.

Akpabio said that the declaration became became necessary in view of the fact that  Senator Ibrahim, who  represented the area has said once vacated his seat for his new position as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a by-election in the next 30 days to fill the existing vacancy in accordance  with the  existing laws.

The Senate President also directed the Clerk to the National Assembly to transmit the resolution of the Senate to the Independent National Electoral Commission for immediate action.

The Ondo South Senatorial Seat became vacant following the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in March this year.
